Asthma
WHAT IS ASTHMA?
Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the lungs characterised by wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing and tightness in the chest. The inflammation is caused by an immune response in the bronchi which leads to episodes that are often worse at night. With both genetic and environmental triggers, asthma affects people of all ages, though in adulthood there are more women than men with asthma. One in ten people in Australia has asthma.
